What I have been up to: Tongues, Tension & Turning Points
The past month has been total madness. If you asked me how I’m doing, my go-to emoji right now is the tornado 🌪️. My Right Quadness got lost in time and space. But I’m finally landing in a summer rhythm, and I want to share what I’ve been up to—minus the boring parts like house packing, long drives, and a few emotional crash-landings.
Lip + Tongue Tie Release
First up: My kid and I both had our tongue and lip ties released—and we did it! The procedure itself is quick and minimally invasive. Before starting, they used Oralase, a gentle dental laser, to soften the muscles and fascia. While I couldn’t find formal studies on it, I definitely felt immediate release in the tension under my tongue.
Then came the breathing and eye movement test—breathing through the nose, eyes all the way left/right, up/down—before the dentist froze our upper lip and tongue with local anesthesia. She used a laser for the initial release and what felt like a scalpel to fine-tune it. Meanwhile, a craniosacral therapist held our heads throughout to support the nervous system and aid healing.
Post-procedure, she had us repeat the eye movement and nose breathing. For me, the difference was instant—I could breathe easily through my right nostril for the first time in ages. My son recovered quickly (credit to endless cartoons), though he had some pain once the freezing wore off. I had to stick to soft foods for a few days. We were given stretches to do right away and had a follow-up a few days later. All good.
Since then, the changes have been incredible. I no longer need Breathe Right strips at night. I’ve stopped mouth taping. I can rest my full tongue on the roof of my mouth—something that calms the nervous system deeply. My HRV jumped from 38–51 to 65–71 (though I’m also trying a vagus nerve stimulator). The intense tension I sometimes feel on my scalp is easing. My TCM practitioner also recommended the Plum Blossom Needle—a mini hammer with micro-needles that I tap on my head during flare-ups. My husband thinks I’ve officially gone off the deep end—but honestly, it’s magic when the pain hits hard.

ALF (Advanced Lightwire Functional) Appliance
A couple of weeks after the release, I had an ALF device fitted on both upper and lower teeth. It’s a gentle palate expander that looks so delicate you’d think it couldn’t do anything—but already, two weeks in, I can feel my teeth subtly shifting.
Why? I have a narrow palate, recessed jaw, and a persistent jaw click—likely made worse by braces I had years ago. The ALF is designed to guide the body back to a more natural (but expanded) alignment. Occasionally, a tooth gets a bit sore, but it’s mild. I’ll report back as things shift more.
Vedic Astrology: Mind = Blown
HOLY MOLY. I’ve been casually learning Western astrology for about a year, and I can read a chart well enough to understand themes and life areas. But a Vedic reading? That was another level.
This astrologer saw everything—deep things I’ve always felt but didn’t know were in my chart. It was equal parts validating and infuriating. Like, why didn’t someone tell me earlier that I was destined to go through xyz? (Why me?!)
Turns out I’m in the middle of a 10-year Sade Sati—a Saturn transit known for being one of the most challenging but transformative phases of life. I have three years left, and apparently, after that, I’m meant to step into my full purpose. A “late bloomer,” he called me. So… watch this space.
City Hit
I’ve been visiting my mom in the city, which is always a joy. I get to eat all the ethnic foods we don’t have where I live, pop into shops, visit amazing consignment stores and load up on a summer wardrobe, and book appointments with some of my favorite practitioners and enjoy the sea wall.
Exosome Micro-needling Facial
We all know I carry some shadows around my skin and appearance—so I try things. A few months ago, I discovered a podcast called Biohacking Beauty, hosted by Amitay Eshel, cofounder of Young Goose, a skincare line using ingredients like NAD+ and spermidine. The podcast is a goldmine of the latest skin science.
They talk a lot about what works and what doesn’t (FYI—they confirmed that radio frequency not only doesn’t work—it may actually damage the skin. Ugh). One of the most exciting developments right now? Exosomes.
Exosomes are tiny particles released by cells that carry proteins, lipids, and genetic material to help other cells regenerate. In skin treatments, they boost collagen and elastin, reduce inflammation, and enhance hydration and healing.
I got a microneedling facial with exosomes, where the micro-injuries allow the exosomes to penetrate deeper. I’m just five days out—and I already see and feel a difference.
I’ve also started cutting out dairy and reducing inflammatory foods, based on what I learned on the podcast. Turns out leaky gut can dehydrate your skin from the inside out. I’ll report back.
Peptides: BPC-157 & GHK-Cu
I know I’m a little late to the party, but I’m deep into researching peptides. The science is fascinating, and the Reddit forums are exploding. The Young Goose podcast introduced me to this world, particularly an episode with Functional Medicine and Ayurvedic practitioner Awais Spall.
Right now I’m focusing on two: BPC-157 and GHK-Cu—but the list is endless. There’s so much to learn. The downside? Self-injections and how hard it is to source quality peptides.
BPC-157
This peptide is comes from a protein found in the stomach and is known for its gut-healing, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-repairing properties. People inject it subcutaneously or take it orally for injuries, leaky gut, or joint pain. Anecdotally, many report faster wound healing, reduced pain, and improved gut function. My man is going to get on it this week for various musculoskeletal issues he has going on.
GHK-Cu
This is a copper peptide naturally found in human plasma. It plays a key role in skin regeneration, collagen production, and reducing fine lines, scars, and inflammation. Some people inject it into the skin (subcutaneously or intradermally), others use it topically. I want to try it for its glow-enhancing properties. There’s actually a "glow protocol" that combines GHK-Cu, BPC-157, and TB5000. Once I’m through the fertility journey, I’ll dive into that.
I’m now on the coast, ready to enjoy some beach time.
